The DB5 was possibly the most famous automobile in the world during the 1960s when Ian Fleming’s books about James Bond became box office hits. Only 123 were ever produced and of those, only 19 were left-hand drive. A special convertible version of the DB5 was built between 19. Only 65 of the 3145-lb, 325-hp Vantage coupes were built. Combined with a modest weight of 3,310 pounds, the DB5 was capable of going from zero-to-60 mph in 8.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 141 mph. The standard DB5, with the 4.0-liter I-6, developed 282 hp at 5,500 rpm and 288 lb-ft of torque at 3,850 rpm. This is why finding an Aston Martin DB5 for sale is so difficult.
The Aston Martin DB5 was only produced from 1963 to 1965 making it a collector's dream. The Aston Martin DB5 also saw the addition of a five-speed transmission and three carburetors. The main difference between the two was the engine size, which was increased from 3.7L to 4.0L for the DB5. The Aston Martin DB5 was a spicier version of the DB4. Aside from these fantasy-evoking gizmos, the Goldfinger DB5 will be an authentic replica with minor alterations to improve both quality and reliability. Although the Goldfinger DB5 will not be street-legal, it will feature fully-functional gadgets developed by the Oscar-winning special effects supervisor of eight James Bond films. While many James Bond (and Aston Martin) fans will lust after this model, only 28 of them will exist, making the ownership club a small and prestigious one. The result of this project is the 2020 Aston Martin James Bond Goldfinger DB5 continuation car.
